Blue and Gold 2013

Posted on Mar 13 2013 - 1:59pm

Another successful Blue and Gold! Great gathering activity (knots!), great food (BBQ), great raffle (many prizes), great advancement (everyone marched forward), great video montage and great Arrow of Light awards (muchas gracias Webelos II leaders). The Crossing Over to the awaiting Scouts was particularly poignant and there wasn't a dry eye in the house as those lads stepped across that footbridge and left Cub Scouting behind. Thanks to all who participated and a special thanks to our organizers. See you in a year at the 2014 B&G!

Life After Cub Scouts

Posted on Feb 12 2013 - 9:52am

Many thanks to all who came out for the January Pack Meeting. There IS life after the Blue and Gold and those departing Web 2s have a bright future if they stay with Scouting. Kayaking, canoeing, mountain climbing, world travel, wilderness survival, hundred mile hikes, etc AND the chance to do good for your fellow man, build leadership chops among your peers, boost your chances at college scholarships and make you a better person for the rest of your life. Not a bad return for putting on a khaki shirt a couple of times a month. Kudos as well to our guest speakers.

Memorial Wreath Laying

wreath threeCubs from Pack 1550 joined other Scouts from across Loudoun on Saturday, December 15th for a memorial wreath laying at Ball’s Bluff National Cemetery. Our Scouts, along with representatives from the VFW, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, the Girl Scouts, Young Marines, the local Navy JROTC detachment and the American Freedom Riders, were part of a coordinated national campaign taking place at all other National Cemeteries across the country. Following a procession across the battlefield to Virginia’s smallest National Cemetery, there was a remembrance ceremony, remarks by the Mayor of Leesburg Kristin Umstattd and a memorial rifle volley. It was a lovely day to honor our Nation’s hallowed dead. Scouts who participated were awarded a patch and earned credit to a number of requirements for advancement.

Scouting for Food

Posted on Nov 27 2012 - 11:01am

The Cubs of Pack 1550 collected 2,731 pounds of food as part of the annual Scouting for Food drive. It was part of the 37,219  pounds that were collected for the Loudoun Interfaith Relief from units in Leesburg and the 104,813 pounds that were collected across Loudoun. To all who participated - many thanks. This is a visible way for Scouts to help their community and the food raised went to those less fortunate in our neighborhoods.
